This program brings together over a dozen architects practicing across Latin America, from Mexico to Argentina. Conceived as a complement to CAMPUS AULA: Educational Architecture in Latin America, currently on view at the Center for Architecture, "Latitudes" will highlight Latin American architects, focusing on projects beyond the educational typology. This will be a hybrid program, with a live audience and keynote by Enrique Norten and several participants presenting via Zoom from their home countries. The architects include established firms as well as emerging talents, each of whom will focus their presentations on regional social and cultural issues and how they are using design to address them. A Q&A discussion will follow the presentations.

About the Speakers:
Enrique Norten, Hon FAIA, is the founder and director of TEN Arquitectos with offices in Mexico City, New York, and Miami. Born is Mexico City, he earned his B. Arch from the Universidad Iberoamericana in 1978 and his M.Arch from Cornell University in 1980. He has received several awards, including the 2018 Fine Arts Medal from Mexico’s Ministry of Culture. Norten was professor of architecture at the University of Pennsylvania and has also taught at Yale, Harvard, Michigan, UCLA, Cornell, SciArc, Rice, Columbia, Pratt, and Parsons in the United States and at the Universidad Iberoamericana in Mexico.
Loreto Lyon is a partner at Beals Lyons Arquitectos in Santiago, Chile, which she founded with Alejandro Beals in 2012. She earned the title of Architect from the Universidad Católica de Chile in 2005 and earned a Master of Science degree from the Bartlett School of Architecture, University College of London in 2011. She teaches studio at the Universidad Católica de Chile and the Universidad Andres Bello.
Viviana Pozzoli established Equipo de Arquitectura in Asunción, Paraguay, with Horacio Cherniavsky in 2017. Born in Paraguay, she received her professional degree from the Universidad Católica Nuestra Señora de la Asunción in 2015. She currently teaches at that university in addition to teaching at the Universidad Nacional de Asunción.
Lucas Coelho Netto founded MATTERIA, based in Sao Paulo, Brazil, in 2022. He received his B.Arch from PUC-Rio and his Masters in Architecture and Urban Design from Columbia University, where he won the Lowenfish Prize. Prior to establishing his firm, he worked with MASSLab in Porto and BIG in Copenhagen.
Carlos Martinez founded AR-AR/Martinez Arquitectura in Bogotá, Colombia, in 2017. He was educated at the Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá received his master's degree at Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile in 2022. He established the Juligon Foundation, a social project, in 2010.
Patricia Llosa founded Llosa/Cortegana with Rodolfo Cortegana in Lima, Peru, in 2005. She received her B.Arch from Universidad Ricardo Palma in Lima and her masters degree from Universidad Politecnica de Catalunya in Barcelona in 1999.
Adriana Chavez established ORU in Mexico City in 2015, where she works closely with the city’s Chief Resilience Officer in the creation of Mexico City’s resilience strategy. She holds a B.Arch from Universidad Iberoamericana and earned a master's degree in Architecture (2013) and in Urbanism, Landscape and Ecology (2014) from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design, where she won the Urban Project Prize for the best thesis project. She teaches at Syracuse University and Columbia University.
Tatiana Bilbao founded her eponymous studio in 2004 in Mexico City, focusing on sustainability and social housing. She received her B.Arch in 1996 from the Universidad Iberoamericana, where she later taught as a professor of design. She has also taught at the Universidad Andres Bello in Chile, and at Yale, Rice, and Columbia. In 2010, she was named one of the Architecture League’s Emerging Voices.
Natalia Silva co-founded the research and urban planning firm URBANA with Ursala Blanque in Bogotá in 2020. She received her undergraduate degree in architecture from the Universidad de los Andes in 2009 and her Master of Science and Urban Development from University College London in 2013. Prior to establishing URBANA, she was the Senior Technical Advisor to the Office of the District Planning Secretariat, leading the formulation of Bogotá's Land Management Plan.
Elisa Silva founded Enlace Arquitectura in Caracas in 2007, and established the non-profit Enlace Foundation in 2017, focused on social integration. She received her undergraduate degree from Emory University and a Master of Architecture from Harvard’s Graduate School of Design. She is an Associate Professor at Florida International University in Miami, and has taught at Princeton, Harvard, and Simon Bolivar University in Caracas. She was awarded the Rome Prize in 2005.
Juan Andres Machado is Director of the Caracas-based firm ODA, which he co-founded with Eric Brewer Leal in 1997. He was educated at Westminster College in Pennsylvania, and at the Universidad Central de Venezuela, Facultad de Arquitectura y Urbanismo. He has taught at the Universidad Jose Maria Vargas and Universidad Simon Bolivar in Caracas.
Eduardo Castillo Cortes founded Castillo Arquitectos in Guatemala City in 2004. He received his Master of Architecture from the Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD) in Georgia, and is the author of the Municipal Guide for Urban Design & Roadways for use in Central American and Caribbean cities. His planning work has been recognized by the Congress for New Urbanism.
Cristiane Muniz co-founded UNAMunizViegas in Sao Paulo in 2019 with Fernando Viegas. Both of them also co-founded UNA Arquitectos in 1996. She was educated at the Faculty of Architecture & Urbanism at the Universidad de Sao Paulo, where she received her masters degree in 2005. She is currently the Director of the Faculty of Architecture & Urbanism at the Escola da Cidade. She has also taught at universities in Texas, Cordoba, Berlin, Chicago, and Lima.
Guillermo Hevia Garcia founded Hevia + Poblete, with Catalina Poblete, in Santiago, Chile. He was educated at the Universidad Catolica de Chile, and received his master’s degree from Columbia University in 2020. He is currently Adjunct Professor at the School of Architecture at the Universidad Catolica de Chile and participated in the Venice Architecture Biennale (2018) and the Seoul Architecture Biennale (2021).
Marcelo Maia Rosa is a partner at Andrade Morettin Arquitetos Associados, which was established in Sao Paulo in 1997. He was educated at the Universidad Presbiteriana Mackenzie in Brazil, and the Eindhoven University of Technology in the Netherlands. He holds a post-graduate degree from the Escola da Cicade, where is currently a design professor. He co-curated the Brazilian Pavilion at the Venice Architecture Biennale (2018).
Lucas Correa Sevilla founded his firm odd+ (Oficina de Diseno) in 2015 in Quito. He received his Master of Architecture in Urban Design from Harvard's Graduate School of Design. In 2016, he assumed the title of Director of Strategic Urban Planning for the Metropolitan Institute of Urban Planning with the purpose of developing the Vision of Quito 2040. He contributed to Ecuador's exhibition at the Venice Architecture Biennale in 2016.
